Abstract | This study assessed visitor participation in six interpretive activities provided by the National Park Service on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The study concluded that: (1) differing social characteristic variables tend to be associated with participants and nonparticipants; (2) differing social characteristics tend to be associated with participants in different activities; (3) weather conditions affect the characteristics of participants at given interpretive functions; (4) characteristics of participant groups vary according to place variables; and (5) participants and nonparticipants can be explained by 12 specific activity variables.
