Abstract | Designed for teachers who want to involve their students with value clarification and decision making in the classroom, this activity packet contains materials to help get students thinking about their values. The teacher's role and responsibility in the valuing process is emphasized. For successful values clarification activities, teachers are encouraged to promote a class atmosphere of trust, respect and acceptance, and to choose value-rich areas that are appropriate for the grade level of the students. Some "do's" and "dont's" for using the educational approach are highlighted. The use of a personal or values journal for each student to record his or her feelings and thoughts is strongly encouraged. The activities include values continuums and forced-choice grids and ladders. (Author/PK) |
