| Abstract | This pamphlet presents six chapters written by marine specialists to help point out the importance of water to Americans. The chapter topics are: (1) water and its meanings for Americans; (2) literature and the arts inspired by the sea; (3) the resources and uses of the sea; (4) the implications of those resources for America's economy; and (5) the impact of marine resources and uses on the American society. This pamphlet was designed as a companion piece to a national statement on the importance of marine education. (BB) |
