AbstractThe report deals with the design, development, and evaluation of a set of self-instructional modules concerning preinstructional competencies for teachers of the handicapped. An introductory chapter covers background information, general objectives of the program, components of the modules, and stages in the development of the modules (analysis, design, and evaluation). Summarized in Chapter II are the salient points of each of the 11 modules which involve competencies in the following areas: specifying behavioral objectives, task analysis, lesson planning through task analysis, concept analysis, planning a concept lesson, instructional games for handicapped children, choosing a curriculum package, teacher-made reading materials, classroom charts for handicapped children, classroom graphics for handicapped children, and preparing tutorial materials. Chapter III describes the activities carried out in the design and production of the actual audio-visual modules. A fourth chapter outlines the rationale and procedures involved in the evaluation of the set of preinstructional competencies modules as a total package. A final chapter discusses field-test results in three areas: trainees' attainment of preinstructional competencies as measured by applied performance tests based on the objectives for each module; changes in trainees' attitudes toward the content of the individual modules, and changes in trainees' attitudes toward the self-instructional format of the modules.
