Abstract | The purpose of this project was to develop a methodology to establish standards of job performance and continuing education opportunities for maintaining competency of occupational therapists. The report contents include (1) Statement of the Problem (The Need for Re-Certification, Problems in the Design of the Re-Certification Program, and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Continuing Certification Program); (2) Purpose and Scope of the Project; (3) Methodology for Establishing Standards of Job Performance in Specially Practice Areas (Problems Encountered, Evaluation of the Methodology, and Recommendations for Revision and Refinement of the Methodology); (4) Methodology for Establishing Relevant Continuing Education Programs (Problems Encountered, Evaluation of the Methodology, Potential Applicability of the Methodology for Other Health Care Professions); and (5) Summary and Conclusions (Implications of the Contract Results and Analysis and Identification of Needs for Further Study).
