Abstract | This collection of essays on socialization theory and research attempts to illustrate a new tendency to see socialization as an interaction process which involves the child as an active partner, rather than as a process by which a child is manipulated. The 13 essays are divided into four categories: (1) Alternate Approaches to Socialization Theory; (2) The Impact of the Family: Nuclear Versus Communal; (3) The Impact of the School: Traditional and Beyond; and (4) New Approaches to Socialization Research.
