Abstract | Data from four studies utilizing Flander's classroom verbal interaction analysis were reexamined to determine the stability and sensitivity of ten derived parameters that can be used to distinguish between lessons that have different amounts of indirect teacher behaviors. Teaching patterns were extracted and compared with these derived indices. No significant relationships were found between teaching patterns and the behavior indices, although the patterns differed significantly between direct and indirect teachers. Two of the derived indices were very sensitive and useful for distinguishing between teachers with similar ratios of direct to indirect verbal behavior. (Author/AL) |
