Abstract | A committee was appointed to review undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in Great Britain, and in light of national needs and resources, including technical assistance overseas, to advise her Majesty's Government on what principles future development (including its planning and coordination) should be based. In particular, the committee was to consider what changes may be needed in the pattern, number, nature or location of the institutions providing medical education or in its general content. This report reviews the future pattern of medical care in Britain, postgraduate medical education and training, the undergraduate medical course, student selection and preparation for the medical course, the number of medical school places required, the cost of medical education, medical education in London, the organization and administration of medical schools and teaching hospitals, and the possibilities of overseas technical assistance.
