| Abstract | This volume consists of 29 papers and articles from leading mathematics-teaching journals in many countries. Discussed is new content and curricula and unusual approaches and techniques in the teaching of mathematics at the elementary and secondary levels. Some topics discussed are theories of mathematics instruction, new mathematical experiences for the elementary school, new approaches to teaching probability, recent attempts toward individualizing instruction, modern algebra in the secondary school, and new topics for geometry. Authors represented include F. Papy, H. Fehr, A. Kolmogorov, B. Kaufman, H. Steiner, H. Freudenthal, and B. Davis. Developmental reports from the Madison Project, the Comprehensive School Mathematics Program and the University of Illinois Committee on School Mathematics are included. Thirteen articles are in French; the remaining articles are in English. (CT) |
