Abstract | The papers delivered at the Fourth Colloquium on College Admissions sponsored by the College Entrance Examination Board in October 1956 are presented in this book. The first two papers are concerned with basic philosophies of admissions and serve as an introduction. The remaining portion of the book has 3 distinct parts. The first part is a group of papers on evaluating the individual student, with a major emphasis on the personality factor as it applies to admissions. The second part is a group of papers concerned with helping the student through his transition from school to college. The third part is an "exercise in assessment" in which the reader is asked to "admit" a certain number of applicants (from 20 actual case histories) to 4 types of colleges. Brief accounts are given concerning how these students actually fared in similar colleges. (DS) |
