Abstract | Decision-making requires decoding, putting different pieces of information in order and organizing them. In team sports, due to the complexity of the environment, spatial and temporal characteristics of ball and player moves must be analysed with reference to some framework. Such an analysis is necessarily conducted with reference to stable elements, such as the court. Situations of play vary since players' actions bring about changes. In this respect, the notion of configurations of play is of interest since it makes it possible for the player to optimize his or her play in situations of confrontation or opposition. To study this problem in basketball, the methodology consisted of selecting and analyzing sequences of play that had led to a goal or a shot at the basket in ten 14-minute matches played during a series often two-hour lessons. Six usual configurations of play were mainly used at the first level for scoring. The authors named them prototypic configurations of play. Players involved in a match face a world of perpetual novelty, in which no experience is ever exactly repeated. There are, however, similarities or analogies between configurations of play in different team sports and one can use them for success and learning. Verf.-Referat (geändert). |
