Abstract	As the roles of teachers, students, and administrators shift to accomodate societal changes, reforms must be implemented to keep professional standards high and reflective of the current agendas within school setting. [The authors of the articles in this book] provide a comprehensive and critical analysis of the efforts to improve the education of preservice teachers, demonstrating a much-needed awareness of the limitations of contemporarty teacher education reform proposals. The book is broken down in the following three parts: Part I, regulation and standards in teacher education; Part II, preparing teachers for cultural diversity; Part III, promoting reflective practice in teacher education. Within each section, the contributors to this volume show how good intentions can be subverted by ignoring the context of policy; provide an historical context to the debate and to the theoretical/political ideas that underlie certain proposals; and examine how universities and schools affect and are affected by specific reforms.
