Abstract | Beginning with a description of adult diploma completion requirements for the El Paso school system, this compilation of program information offers reference material and guidelines for adult diploma and high school equivalency programs in many states. Oriented towards administrators who formulate program guidelines, this report furnishes comparative information based on results of two diploma-requirements surveys mailed to a number of states. The narrative summary of the survey of adult diploma programs indicates two general trends across the nation: one trend is toward competency-based programs, while the other is toward continued use of conventional diploma completion programs. There is also information from a six-item Employer Hiring Practices Survey of El Paso's largest employers. Appendixes list adult diploma guidelines for programs in Texas and eleven other states.
