Abstract | The central aim of this article is to analyse the current situation of adult education in Greece. The article focuses on the following points: (a) the degree of participation in programmes of continuing professional training and general adult education courses, (b) the quality and the outcomes of the adult education provision in Greece, and (c) the governmental policies and initiatives of adult education which relate to these points. This national study is compared with relevant developments at international level and is connected to the broader socio-economic conditions that have an impact on the developments of the field of adult education. The article begins with the examination of the international trends in adult education within the current socio-economic context and then it proceeds to the analysis of the situation of adult education in Greece.
