Abstract | This article describes an activity for the author's Principles of Technology class in which students bring together the concepts of force, work, and rate, and show how they apply to mechanical, fluid, electrical, and thermal systems by building and flying a hovercraft. Building, testing, flying, and racing hovercrafts isn't something very many schools do--and the author's students say they're proud to accomplish something only a handful of students in New England have done. They learn about the Principles of Technology and have all work, travel, and compete together as a team. (ERIC). |
