Abstract | The study of insects (entomology) can be used to stimulate students' interest in science and nature. It can develop students' understanding of fundamental science concepts, awareness of interdisciplinary connections, and mastery of science process skills. This teaching module provides opportunities for middle school students (Grades 5-8) to learn about insect communication. The unit includes a mix of collaborative, hands-on, and discussion activities informed by constructivism and shaped around the learning cycle and inquiry-based instruction. Assessment suggestions, extension options, and supplemental resources are also presented. (As Provided). |
