AbstractIn this article, the author relates the changing nature of international conflict and peacemaking since the end of the cold war to the development of a school curriculum that focuses on pressing international issues that are shared by people around the world. He also analyzes the implications of the changing world for curriculum development and describes a model for teaching about these issues. The changing nature of international conflict raises questions about how to educate young people for citizenship. Educators need to determine what knowledge young people must have to become thoughtful, involved citizens. The author discusses methods of helping students develop consciousness of issues in conflict and peacemaking and presents an exercise that encourages students to think about both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is presented.
