Abstract | Surveys teachers and their preparation and current use of strategies that were emphasized in a six-hour practicum in diagnosis and remediation of reading difficulties. Discusses a philosophy of corrective reading instruction that is: based on an interactive model of reading; attends to Vygotsky's zone of proximal development for individual students; and is situated in a community of learners as they explore interests in science and social studies.
