Abstract | Attempts to enhance higher education through encouragement of market forces assume that students are informed consumers. This article examines problems with this approach, particularly limitations on applicants' knowledge of the higher education system as revealed in a survey of Australian students. It explores meaningful differentiation of institutional missions and approaches and accurate dissemination of these differences to students. (EV) |
