Abstract | Examines the roots of the school choice controversy by contrasting two models of public interest theory. The laissez-faire model focuses on the U.S. tradition of individualism, cultural pluralism, and free-enterprise. The republican model of universal education assumes that a nation is only as good, moral, or responsible as the citizens who comprise it. (149 footnotes) (MLF) |
