Abstract | Reviews continuities and discontinuities in the field of developmental psychology between 1970 and the early 1980s, limiting discussion to areas of cognition and learning. Three major theoretical trends are identified: Piagetian, behavioristic, and information-processing. The field is perceived as fragmented, and it is expected that such fragmentation will continue.
