Abstract | Afterschool programs such as tutoring and school-based or community-based programs have effectively functioned as prevention and intervention programs for children at risk. This literature review focuses on afterschool mentoring programs for children at risk. The purpose of reviewing the literature was to (a) determine the breadth and scope of the literature base, (b) identify program features, and (c) synthesize information to inform practical considerations. A systematic review process yielded 10 articles that met the criteria and were reviewed for (a) mentee characteristics, (b) mentor characteristics, (c) program components, (d) program evaluation procedures, (e) program type, and (f) type of research. Results are discussed in terms of program features and practical implications based on the findings of the review. (As Provided). |
