Other chapters include: (1) general laws relating to agricultural and mechanical land-grant colleges; (2) Benjamin Franklin's influence on American education, written by Francis Newton Thorpe; (3) the college-bred negro; (4) Francis Wayland Parker and his work for education; (5) The work of certain northern churches in the education of the freedmen, written by A. D. Mayo; (6) miscellaneous educational topics; (6) the educational progress of the year 1901-1902, written by William R. Harper; (7) education in France; (8) "Education of the Will," a lecture by F. Busson, given at the Sorbonne; (9) education in Italy; (10) Illiteracy of the Voting Population in the United States, which was prepared under the direction of Charles W. Dabney; (11) foreign universities and other foreign institutions of higher education; (12) commercial education in Switzerland; (13) consular reports on education; (14) a memorial to Henry Barnard, the first Commissioner of Education; (15) Oxford University; (16) education in Great Britain and Ireland in 1902; (17) correspondence schools; (18) a child study in Chicago; and (19) Education in Russia.
