Abstract | New York City's Special Education School Articulation Program, which fosters informed student and parent choice about available high school program options, is described. Initial program objectives for the 1990-91 school year included hiring of school articulation coordinators and development of specific articulation plans by middle and high schools. Evaluation indicated these objectives were met with some schools also implementing articulation activities. The instructional component of the program, implementation of special events (such as intervisitations), and parent involvement activities have been initiated. It was concluded by school program coordinators and the Borough articulation coordinators that the program has already had an important positive impact on students. Recommendations include planning of more boroughwide meetings for coordinators, improvement of within-school articulation activities, evaluation of the newly developed collaborative articulation conference, and reevaluation of the workload of school program coordinators. This document presents an executive summary of the program; an introduction presenting program background, objectives, and methodology; a discussion of the program concept; a report of specific program evaluation findings; and recommendations.
