Abstract | This guide is designed for use with the "Consumer's Resource Handbook" published by the U.S. Office of Consumer Affairs. The handbook's overall purpose is to help build consumer literacy for the global marketplace of the 21st century. The handbook can familiarize students--both youth and adults--with sources of marketplace information/assistance and encourage application of basic skills, critical thinking, and reasoning to spending and other daily decisions. The teacher's guide contains the following sections: (1) teacher background and suggestions for use; (2) three categories of suggested learning activities (information and informed decisions, effective complaint handling, further study and creative application); (3) key sources of assistance; (4) acknowledgments; and (5) address to obtain the guide and "Consumer's Resource Handbook."
