Abstract | Official instructional materials for the first three years (grades 4-6) of the Manitoba Department of Education's core French language program consist of units in geography, weather and calendars, holidays, and music designed for each of the three instructional levels. The units on geography focus on Manitoba and Canada. Units on the calendar and weather address aspects of meteorology, weather charting, and seasons. Units on holidays contain materials on Christmas, the Feast of Saint Catherine, and a day celebrating the Canadian trappers. A unit on music designed for all three levels contains the lyrics to French and Canadian songs, most related to specific events or holidays. Exercises and visual aids are included in most units.
