Abstract | This document notes that more than 700,000 public school students drop out of school annually and recognizes that many national, state, and local programs exist to encourage young people to stay in school. It describes the National Dropout Prevention Center as a resource base and a clearinghouse for those involved in reducing the high dropout rate, and presents this directory of people involved in dropout prevention programs around the country as part of the Center's commitment to facilitating coordination and cooperation among programs. The directory itself is divided into three sections (national, regional, and state) and includes representatives from educational organizations, regional laboratories and groups, and state departments of education. In addition, some contacts from local and city-wide organizations are included. Information for the directory was obtained from questionnaires and telephone calls, and from organizations who contacted the National Dropout Prevention Center. More than 350 names and addresses are included.(NB) |
