Abstract | This correspondence course, originally developed for the Marine Corps, is designed to provide mechanics with an understanding of the construction, operation, malfunction, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of the fuel and exhaust systems used in automobiles. The course contains five study units covering fundamentals of gasoline engine fuel systems, maintenance of gasoline engine fuel systems, fundamentals of compression-ignition fuel systems, maintenance of compression-ignition engine fuel systems, and construction and operation of exhaust systems. Each study unit begins with a general objective, which is a statement of what the student should learn from the study unit. The study units are divided into numbered work units, each presenting one or more specific objectives, and illustrated unit texts. At the end of the unit texts are study questions. A review lesson completes the course. (KC) |
