Abstract | The goal of the Pacific Circle Project is to improve international and intercultural understanding among the people and nations of the Pacific. Consortium member countries are Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States. Within the countries are chosen member institutions. Two major types of activities of the consortium are the exchange of information, materials, and personnel among members in areas of mutual interest and concern and the development of educational materials and processes with a multicultural perspective. Major projects are concerned with developing materials to teach about the Pacific Ocean, collecting existing materials and organizing them into new materials for teaching about the Arctic and Southern Ocean, and providing opportunities for students and teachers to exchange materials and ideas and to make personal contacts. In addition to the projects, a number of cooperative activities are being conducted. For example, in Japan and Australia instructional films are being translated and adapted for use in both countries. All activities proposed for NIE grant support during the period March 1981 to March 1982 were successfully completed: an annual meeting and a workshop were held; issues of a newsletter were produced; and the bylaws were revised.
