Abstract | The document presents a summary of the major activities of a project to assist educators, parents, and community leaders as they develop and implement citizenship education programs. The report begins with a description of the project and enumerates project objectives including identifying basic competencies required by citizens in a pluralist society, identifying school management practices and instructional materials related to such competencies, and making decisions about the development, revision, implementation, and assessment of citizenship-related problems. Other sections of the report are devoted to directories of the project staff and National Advisory Panel members, a progress report on advisory panel questionnaires, comments by panel members on various aspects of the project, copies of correspondence between project staff and members of the National Institute of Education and other government agencies, and feedback forms from teachers and supervisors who participated in project workshops. The final section presents an executive summary which details project findings, basic citizenship competencies, and project products. (DB) |
