AbstractFocusing on the psychology of reading behavior, the 36 articles in this volume were drawn from the eighteenth annual meeting of the National Reading Conference held in 1968. Among the topics discussed in the articles are the following: eye movement, the psychology of reading behavior, reading improvement, reading tests, reading research, leisure reading habits of female teachers and other women of the same social status, an athletic department reading and study skills program, and "American Language Skills Course," linguistic assumptions and reading instruction, areas of confusion in the development of a science of reading, the relationship of college reading programs to educational counseling, rate controlled speech and listening comprehension, grammatical sense as a factor in reading comprehension, educational implications of research in RNA and DNA, student reading interests, the phonics skills of teachers and teacher education students, the readability levels of adult magazine materials, dyslexia, adult literacy, an informal reading inventory for the blind, behavior modification, assessing skimming and scanning skills improvement, the publisher's role in the evaluation of materials, and junior college reading programs.
