AbstractThe purpose of this faculty and staff manual is to gather together and present in a tabular format a composite of the learning delivery system used at the Community College of Vermont (CCV) and the resources that support its community- and competence-based approach to education. Each of the processes in the system is examined in terms of a four-stage procedure that consists of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The manual's first section addresses curriculum development and instructional support for CCV's primarily adult, part-time student population. The process of curriculum development is traced from the first community needs assessment through instructor and location selection to the final evaluation. Because CCV is dependent upon community experts to teach part-time, instructional support is especially important and is considered in the manual in terms of recruitment and outreach, resource and facility needs, contract preparation, orientation, and evaluation. Degree planning and attainment and student support services, such as financial aid, assessment, information needs, and counseling, are examined next. Finally, the manual stresses the importance of staff development and provides instructors with an annotated bibliography of CCV reports and basic reading materials on adult development and learning, competence-based and experiential learning, and instructional development.
