Abstract | Materials contained in this career guidance unit are designed to aid ten- and eleven-year-old students in becoming effective problem solvers, and to bring to attention the relationship between an individual's values and decisions. Skill in using a simplified problem solving technique introduced in the primary grades (Decision Making, Levels 2-3--available separately) is reviewed and further developed as a part of this unit. Stress is on the concept that consequences will inevitably follow actions which are the result of a decision. Each of the fifteen lessons included in the unit requires approximately thirty minutes of class time. A variety of methods, such as limericks, murals, role playing, and worksheets, is designed to keep student interest at a high level and provide effective means of achieving the goals of the unit. Each lesson is outlined according to time and materials needed, purpose of the activity, class arrangement, and steps for developing the learning activity. Sample worksheets for use with activities are included. (TA) |
