Abstract | The internally developed career education program presented was implemented into the existing curriculum over a 3-year period at all grade levels in the Davis County school system (Utah), and included hands-on experience, on-the-job training, career information centers, and guidance and counseling activities. The report briefly describes the inservice training, elementary, junior and senior high school classroom activity, and other project components. Presented in narrative and tabular form are student evaluation data collected from pretests and posttests regarding self-awareness, decisionmaking, knowledge of occupations and the relationship of occupation and functions, appreciation for work, and economic concepts. Also reported are teacher evaluation data on teacher involvement and teacher assessment of the career education program and the results of a parent career education attitude survey. It was concluded that the project had some impact on the participating students and teachers which varied with schools and classrooms depending on the attitude of the administrator and teacher. It was also found that some teachers lacked a precise idea of career education and exhibited no desire to learn more due to a preconceived notion of its inapplicability to their teaching area. The project-developed questionnaires are appended to the report. (NJ) |
