Abstract	Presenting evaluations of the Bureau of Indian Affairs' (BIA) implementation of the School Management Option Project, a project designed to further American Indian control of schools and elevated to the status of Presidential/Secretarial Objective (P/SO) in 1974, this report includes separate evaluations by the National Indian Training and Research Center (NITRC) and Underwood Research and Evaluation made between June 1974 and December 1975. The NITRC evaluation presents a summary of findings, recommendations for future BIA strategy, comments on specific Area Offices, and an appendix. Among the NITRC recommendations presented are: all future P/SO should be carefully coordinated with all other BIA efforts in information dissemination re: PL 93-638; the fact that PL 93-638 provides for contracting partial and special programs should be emphasized; the public school option should be kept viable and in no way played down. The Underwood evaluation is presented by area as it is based on interviews and site visits to Indian schools in the Aberdeen, Muskogee, Anadarko, and Eastern Areas and assesses the effectiveness of BIA information dissemination re school management options. Among the Underwood recommendations are: the training packet should be mandatory; individual Areas must specify to the Central Office who is responsible for information dissemination and who constitutes the target audiences; there should be a Central-Area agreement on priorities.
