| Abstract | This monograph considers the clinical concept as used by professions other than teaching to help clarify the meaning of clinical experience and clinical practice in teacher education. Papers are presented from the professions of clinical psychology, allied health, business, and nursing. The following questions were posed to the authors for answers: (1) How are the terms "clinical experience" or "clinical training" used in your profession? (2) Are similar terms used to represent a period of on-the-job training under the guidance of an experienced practitioner? (3) Is this training concentrated prior to entrance to the profession, or available as well for skill updating by experienced professionals? (4) What issues seem to be significant in this realm of your profession? (5) How is the experienced practitioner chosen for this role as trainer? (6) Is specialized training required for the role? (7) How are these training personnel recognized for their professional contributions? and (8) Are they specially credentialled? The final paper in this monograph deals with clinical experience and clinical practice in teacher education. Reference lists are included. (RC) |
