Abstract | The guide, developed to assist administrators and teachers involved in starting and administering public service career education programs, suggests guidelines for utilizing the six curriculum guides contained in the Public Service Occupations Curriculum Project. An introductory chapter discusses public service careers, the career education concept, program goals and objectives, program validity, and generalized implementation. The first chapter deals with planning in terms of program development and staffing. Chapter 2 outlines program organization, including program coordination, student recruitment, support services, and program evaluation. The third chapter, on curriculum, describes the methods of integrating the public service course into the existing school program and details the implementation process. Goals and objectives, planning, implementation, and student selection for work experience progams are discussed in chapter 4. Planning and implementing for involvement of community resources and the use of a public service advisory committee is the subject of chapter 5. The development and implementation of an articulation component and a compilation of information needed by the teacher is described in detail in the final chapter. The guide also includes a three-page bibliography. (Author/MS) |
