Abstract | The purposes of this paper were to briefly define content analysis, to report the findings of a survey of dissertations using content analysis methodology in the field of youth media, to place these studies into a typological pattern, and to suggest needed content analysis research in media for youth. Eighty-nine studies selected from a total of 488 dissertations were classified as using content analysis methodology according to O. R. Holsti's definition. The study concludes that content analysis offers much to those interested in learning more about the characteristics of media intended for children and adolescents. (RB) |
