Abstract	These proceedings of a second annual symposium hosted by the Chemistry Department of the University of Maryland contain the tests of addresses given to approximately 300 chemistry teachers. A brief description of the University of Maryland Teaching Associate Program is given. Included are papers on the uses of chemistry during the Civil War, chemical kinetics and air pollution, crustal disturbances in the ocean floor, the effects and use of chemicals in the sexual behavior of insects, lipids in oysters, the reactions of positronium and antimatter chemistry, flourescence and luminescence in the study of the environment, the use of electronic equipment in chemistry laboratories, organosilicon chemistry, the chemistry of the solar system including meteorites and the moon, and the transuranium elements. A paper entitled "Humanization and the Process of Education" is also included. A program of the symposium, list of participants, and a list of the University of Maryland Department of Chemistry faculty, teaching assistants, and teaching associates conclude this illustrated volume.
