| Abstract | The first volume of the journal was published in 1956 under the title "Issues of Physical Culture". It was an official edition of VKFS and, a couple of years later - of CS of BSFS. Today the journal celebrates its 60th anniversary. Our journal, the only scientific journal in Bulgaria dedicated to the problems of physical education and sport, successfully overcame many different economic, financial and social obstacles during the years. And still we have succeeded in not discontinuing the issuing of the journal - an achievement very few other journals could be proud of. During the last 60 years more than 10 500 articles in 600 regular volumes, 58 special ones and 28 annexes were published, covering all aspects of physical education and sports science. The most successful period for the journal in terms of number of authors, publications and subscribers was between the years 1970 and 1980. The circulation of the journal reached between 4000 and 6000 and the number of foreign subscribers was more than 400 in 40 countries. The most prominent characteristic of our journal's policy concerns the accent on publishing the results of scientific studies and the novelties in sports science and physical education in any rubric of "Sport and Science". Being the heart of our journal, the number of these rubrics increased to more than 36 during the last 60 years. In 1980 Bulgarian Government rewarded the exceptional contributions of the journal for the great success of Bulgarian athletes on the Olympic Games with a first-degree "Ciril and Metodii" medal. In the same year CS of BSFS rewarded "Sport and Science" with a "For Exceptional Service" medal. (Autor). |
