Abstract | The purpose of this review was to examine and analyse the current literature from 2013-2014 focusing on physical education teacher education and coach education. Specifically the goal was to understand the process that teachers and coaches undergo when acquiring and developing knowledge to enhance effective instruction. A descriptive matrix guided the literature search. The keywords that were used during this process focused on physical education teacher education, in-service content, and instructional experiences. The keywords were as folIows: pre-service teachers, physical education teacher education programs, knowledge development, content, and teacher effectiveness. Following the initial literature search, patterns were synthesized and analysed into a narrative form. This narrative was guided by the initial criteria of the review and overall research questions. We have categorized the research into the following sections (a) field experiences and teaching identities; (b) disabilities; (c) curriculum; (d) community of learners helping to create a reflective practice; (e) field experiences and coaching strategies; (f) technology and coach education; (g) integration; (h) teaching/coaching approaches and inclusive youth sport.
