Abstract | The "Europeanization" of higher education must be studied in more detail. In the case of ERASMUS, the "student tourism program", frequently very young students spend a few weeks studying abroad at a university within the Europan Union. Preliminary results of an evaluation of the ERASMUS program could indicate that the availability of accompanying social programs in each country is lacking.... The development of the "Kurzzeitpädagogik" (short-term- education by (Kurt) Hahn has caused an increasing awareness that short term learning processes must be supervised and structured in order to be successful. The prejudices of youth do not simply disappear through contact with other cultures, as has been shown through international school exchanges and multinational-national summer camps. Communication and experience shows that foreign students do not learn only through cultural contact, but rather through the use of a mediator who has already been living in the host country for a longer period of time.
