AbstractIn a diverse, interconnected, and results-oriented world, students need to be confident and well-prepared public speakers. However, many students entering public speaking classrooms feel anxious and dread having to perform publicly (Bodie, 2010). Students' sense of Communication Apprehension (CA) is likely to increase for any of several reasons, including novelty of the situation, excessive self-attention, and high level of perceived evaluation by others (Richmond, Wrench, & McCroskey, 2013). In the case of graded public speeches, students are likely to experience all three of these contributing factors. Most college students already have limited experience speaking in front of others in a formal context. The participatory sketching activity described in this article encourages students to engage actively with the difficult issue of public speaking anxiety. (ERIC).
