Abstract | The purpose of this study is to develop a service-learning model that increases preservice teachers' knowledge about communities by assisting preschool programs to provide expanded services to low-income families. The researcher interviewed key stakeholders in three preschool programs that vary in the types of family support services and use of preservice teachers as interns about their effectiveness in meeting the needs of the families at their centers. Their interview responses were used to develop a service-learning model that will help improve delivery of program services and increase students' knowledge about how to provide comprehensive support for children, families, and communities.
