Abstract | The Elementary School Proficiency Assessment (ESPA) is New Jersey's test for fourth graders. It is designed to give the school information about how well students are achieving in the areas required by New Jersey's Core Curriculum Content Standards. This guide offers parents, students, and teachers information about the ESPA. The parent information section, which is presented in English and Spanish, describes the ESPA and discusses who will be tested. The types of questions are described, and how to help a child prepare for the ESPA is outlined. The length and fairness of the test are outlined, and sources for additional information are presented. The student information section, only in English, explains what the ESPA is, what the questions are like, what a student should expect, and what else a student should know about taking the ESPA. Sample questions, only in English, are included for science, language arts literacy, and mathematics. Teacher information is implicit in the document; there is no teacher information section. (SLD) |
