Abstract | The sixteen chapters in this volume were selected from advocacy theme papers written by members of the American Counseling Association. They examine the role of the counselor as advocate for different groups of people, as follows: (1) "Developing a Common Language and Framework for Understanding Advocacy in Counseling," (R. L. Toporek); (2) "Advocacy on Behalf of African American Clients," (J-A L. Sander); (3) "Challenging Linguicism: Action Strategies for Counselors and Client-Colleagues," (S. F. Chen-Hayes, M. Chen, and N. Athar); (4) "Advocacy for Native American Indian and Alaska Native Clients and Counselees," (R. Herring); (5) "Empowerment Strategies from Latino/Latina Perspectives" (P. Arredondo and L. Vazquez); (6) "Multiracial Families," (K. Kenney); (7) "Youth Advocacy," (M. D'Andrea and J. Daniels); (8) "Advocating on Behalf of Older Adults," (J. Goodman and E. Waters); (9) "Social Justice Advocacy with Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, and Transgendered Persons," (S. F. Chen-Hayes); (10) "Gender-Based Advocacy for Equity and Non-Violence," (S. Hansen); (11) "Domestic Violence: The Case for Social Advocacy," (M. S. Arnold and K. Sobieraj); (12) "Advocacy on Issues Related to Addictions" (M. J. Taleff); (13) "Advocacy for People with HIV/AIDS," (J. Cebuhar); (14) "Working with Mental Health Care Advocacy Groups," (M. Tenety and M.
