Abstract	This study evaluated the reliability and construct validity of scores from the "Children's Role Inventory" (A. Potter and D. Williams, 1991). The measure specifies four roles fulfilled by children: Hero, Lost Child, Mascot, and Scapegoat. Theory and some research also suggest that adults continue to interact based on role assignments adopted in childhood. Both confirmatory and explanatory factor analyses and analyses of variance were conducted for a sample of 499 college students, primarily nonminority members. In the aggregate, analyses suggest that the four roles have reasonable construct validity, but some variations in the measurement of the roles may ultimately be specified to refine this model. The instrument may be useful in assessment and research applications, although further study is warranted. Appendixes present score reliability item analysis statistics and a variance/covariance matrix for Children's Role Inventory items and item parcels. (Contains 5 tables and 29 references.) (SLD)
