Abstract | Some educators suggest that schools shift their teaching paradigm to one of environments in which students take command of their own education, wherein learning is more authentic and students can do what Piaget suggests learning results from--acting upon reality. This book outlines six curricular models based on Gardner's multiple intelligences and student control of the curriculum. Following an introduction that outlines the curriculum frameworks and briefly describes the eight intelligences, the guide presents the curriculum models: Problem-Based Learning, Case Studies, Thematic Learning, Project Learning, Service Learning, and Performance Learning. For each of the models, the guide details the following: (1) what the type of learning is, (2) what it looks and sounds like, (3) how it works, (4) why it works, (5) the key players and their roles, (6) when it can be used effectively, and (7) where to find more information. Each model also includes worksheets for teachers to note their current thinking about the model and how he or she might use the model. The guide concludes with a 151-item bibliography. (HTH) |
