Abstract | This guide is designed for Spanish language training of Peace Corps workers in Uruguay, and reflects daily communication needs in that context. It consists of 11 instructional units, each addressing four to seven specific language competencies. A table of contents outlines the targeted competencies and content for each unit. The units contain several brief texts and/or dialogues, vocabulary and phrase lists, grammar notes, pronunciation notes, and a series of completion and pattern drill exercises. Topics within the units include greetings and introductions, numbers, professions, self-introduction, describing family, food, money, community services, daily activities, expressing time, transportation, expressing likes and dislikes, weather, health and wellness, giving and getting directions, invitations and social behavior, housing, clothing, and telephone usage.
