Abstract | This guide, which is intended to assist developers of community-based adult literacy programs in Manitoba, explains the following components of good programming and presents suggestions for integrating them into literacy provision: community outreach, program development, learner involvement, provision of appropriate staffing, use of volunteers, commitment to training and professional development, and meaningful evaluation. Appendixes constituting approximately 60% of the guide contain the following sample documents: interview procedures and questions for literacy instructors, contract for literacy instructors, job description for literacy instructors, guidelines for evaluating teachers, criteria and interview questions for literacy coordinators, job description for literacy program coordinators, volunteer intake form, and financial statement.
